Summary

Bestseller „New York Timesa” i zdobywca licznych nagród!

ah to be a small chaos bisexual touring through Europe with your lifelong crush, stepping from one blunder into the next with neither one capable of confessing their feelings… love these daft lads <3 and Felicity Montague is my queen4。5/5

I thought the second half was a bit more riveting than the first half。。。fun to have historical fiction that allows the fictional characters be more diverse than you would assume in the 1700/1800s。

It's the 1700s, and Henry "Monty" Montague is an 18-year-old rake, tossed from the finest schools for his vices。 Monty enjoys a bit of drink, merriment, and romping with both ladies and lads。 Though he realizes there is one lad in particular, his long-time friend Percy。 Percy is biracial, his father having brought him to England as an infant, the result of an affair on the "family estate" in Barbados。 Percy's father passed away soon after, leaving Percy in the care of an aunt an uncle。Monty is s It's the 1700s, and Henry "Monty" Montague is an 18-year-old rake, tossed from the finest schools for his vices。 Monty enjoys a bit of drink, merriment, and romping with both ladies and lads。 Though he realizes there is one lad in particular, his long-time friend Percy。 Percy is biracial, his father having brought him to England as an infant, the result of an affair on the "family estate" in Barbados。 Percy's father passed away soon after, leaving Percy in the care of an aunt an uncle。Monty is soon to launch his Grand Tour of the Continent, where he is to spend a year traveling the major cities of Europe, guided by a "bear leader," and in the company of Percy and Monty's younger sister Felicity, who resists going to finishing school because she wants nothing more than to become a doctor。I was utterly charmed by this book。 The author, who has a BA in history, clearly did her research (also evident in her author's note at the end, which I recommend), and had such fun with the 18th-century "rake" character type。 Within the entertaining narrative, Lee weaves in issues of class, gender, race, and sexual orientation without writing a polemic。 I'm sold on the series and will definitely read the rest of the "Montague Siblings" books。 。。。more

The first book in the Montague Siblings series, The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue is about Henry 'Monty' Montague, his sister Felicity and his best friend (that he's in love with) Percy。 This book is incredibly entertaining and follows the characters' journey across Europe。 It touches on homophobia, child abuse, racism, disability and sexism in the 1700s and yet never fails to be amazing。 I love this book so much。 The first book in the Montague Siblings series, The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue is about Henry 'Monty' Montague, his sister Felicity and his best friend (that he's in love with) Percy。 This book is incredibly entertaining and follows the characters' journey across Europe。 It touches on homophobia, child abuse, racism, disability and sexism in the 1700s and yet never fails to be amazing。 I love this book so much。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Loved Monty & Percy, although Monty is the sort of MC you kinda want to roll your eyes at and shake him by the shoulders a bit。 I was annoyed by Felicity a bit at times (although I heard her character arc in the sequel to this book addresses my issues with her, so TBD on that) but still found her likable overall。 Some parts of the adventure were a bit much and I didn’t understand about the *SPOILER* {cure-all heart that makes the mother alive but not alive}。 I also felt like there were a lot of Loved Monty & Percy, although Monty is the sort of MC you kinda want to roll your eyes at and shake him by the shoulders a bit。 I was annoyed by Felicity a bit at times (although I heard her character arc in the sequel to this book addresses my issues with her, so TBD on that) but still found her likable overall。 Some parts of the adventure were a bit much and I didn’t understand about the *SPOILER* {cure-all heart that makes the mother alive but not alive}。 I also felt like there were a lot of lose ends that should have been wrapped up but weren’t? But honestly, I read this book for the romance first and foremost & THAT wrapped up nicely, so I’m not as bothered by the rest as I should be。 。。。more

It felt flat for my reading taste, since there was travel involved I had higher expectations but I was bored out of my mind most of the time reading this one, the writing is good and easy though, maybe it was not meant for me personally and others may like it better。

I did not expect this book to be so good。 I had put it off for so long because people said it was sad but it was really good!I did not expect such an exciting adventure with a sarcastic rake, Pirates, creepy alchemy, hijinks and more。 It was a fun read。 The romance was super slow burn angst but not in a painful way。 It was sweet and beautiful Listened to the audio book。 Loved it。

I'm not sure how I feel about this, to be honest。 It wasn't what I expected。 I thought it was going to be a funny and romantic story about two young men traveling around Europe and falling in love while getting into trouble。 And while I suppose it was that, there was also this entire other plot that I hadn't expected, and it felt kind of out of place。 I didn't love the whole alchemy plot, I was just waiting for the fun stuff and the romance, which there actually was very little of。 But I did enj I'm not sure how I feel about this, to be honest。 It wasn't what I expected。 I thought it was going to be a funny and romantic story about two young men traveling around Europe and falling in love while getting into trouble。 And while I suppose it was that, there was also this entire other plot that I hadn't expected, and it felt kind of out of place。 I didn't love the whole alchemy plot, I was just waiting for the fun stuff and the romance, which there actually was very little of。 But I did enjoy the book still, even though it wasn't as much as I had hoped。 I might try the second book in the series as well。 。。。more

This book was spectacular。 The writing's brilliant。 The best part about this book is that our protagonist is not the perfect, too good to be true person。 He's messed up。 In fact, every character in this book (except Felicity duh) come with their own flaws and it's beautiful。 I absolutely loved this book and devoured it within a day。 I can not recommend this one enough to people。 It has adventure, love, romance, every bit of what we need。 I loved how much room there is for character analysis and This book was spectacular。 The writing's brilliant。 The best part about this book is that our protagonist is not the perfect, too good to be true person。 He's messed up。 In fact, every character in this book (except Felicity duh) come with their own flaws and it's beautiful。 I absolutely loved this book and devoured it within a day。 I can not recommend this one enough to people。 It has adventure, love, romance, every bit of what we need。 I loved how much room there is for character analysis and personality growth。 。。。more

TW for the whole book: frequent mention of violent systemic misogyny, homophobia, racism, and ableism。 I’m a little wary of the PoC and disability rep in this book because this author is a bit well-known for stepping out of her lane。 But I didn’t see anything wrong with it aside from how uncomfortable it made me that Monty called Percy “negro。” Aside from Monty, Percy, and Felicity’s adventure through Europe, this book is about Monty, the epitome of a liberal rich white boy learning how to be le TW for the whole book: frequent mention of violent systemic misogyny, homophobia, racism, and ableism。 I’m a little wary of the PoC and disability rep in this book because this author is a bit well-known for stepping out of her lane。 But I didn’t see anything wrong with it aside from how uncomfortable it made me that Monty called Percy “negro。” Aside from Monty, Percy, and Felicity’s adventure through Europe, this book is about Monty, the epitome of a liberal rich white boy learning how to be less of a rich white boy。 But the un-rich-white-boy-ifying took so long and I got so annoyed with Monty for not knowing and not learning and basically causing a large portion of his own problems。 I get Monty had so many hardships of his own, but I don’t get why Percy stuck by him and why he got so much pity from everyone。 This book is basically a message to white, straight, able-bodied people and it’s quite obvious that it’s coming from that perspective。 But as a queer, biracial, and “differently-abled” (as my mom likes to say (I’m not disabled, but I do have a bunch of health conditions that impair my ability to function properly)) girl, I found it quite refreshing to read both a historical book that didn’t ignore the painful history of marginalization and violence against women, PoC, and queer and disable people, and a fun book that highlighted that painful history without making it too painful to read。 。。。more

Solid。 It’s kinda sad, the situation is quiet stressful and it definitely wasn’t as fun as I wanted but it was still good。 Nice writing although I little bit a lot, like I felt like their were a lot of unneeded sentences。 The characters were cool, FELICITY IS AN ICON THE GIRLBOSS OF GIRLBOSSES, the plot was a plot。 It just wasn’t what a wanted at the moment, I don’t know if because of that it was really slow or if that’s just because it is slow, but either way don’t go in expecting a funny haha Solid。 It’s kinda sad, the situation is quiet stressful and it definitely wasn’t as fun as I wanted but it was still good。 Nice writing although I little bit a lot, like I felt like their were a lot of unneeded sentences。 The characters were cool, FELICITY IS AN ICON THE GIRLBOSS OF GIRLBOSSES, the plot was a plot。 It just wasn’t what a wanted at the moment, I don’t know if because of that it was really slow or if that’s just because it is slow, but either way don’t go in expecting a funny haha time。 No。 It’s a bit sad with a lot of romance and pretty plot centered。 Probably more of a 3。8 but I think it deserves the 4 star on behalf of other people。 。。。more
